Location
The town is about three hours by car from Missoula, Montana, and about two and half hours from Idaho Falls, Idaho. Salmon Air offers convenient weekday flights to and from Boise, Idaho.
The Area
Located near the confluence of the Lemhi and Salmon rivers and on the edge of the 2.3 million acre Frank Church Wilderness area, Salmon presents its residents with spectacular natural views and easy access to some of the best outdoor experiences in the United States. From rafting and fishing to skiing to hiking in Idaho, we have it all.
The Town
Salmon, Idaho has a population of about 3,300 inside city limits and 7,500 in the county. The Salmon School District is home to approximately 1,134 K-12 students. Our local high school offers a comprehensive program in academic and vocational courses and boasts many junior varsity and varsity sports for both men and women's team. Salmon recently built a new and improved hospital to serve the community, and is also home to the Sacagawea Interpretive Center, which is focused on spreading knowledge of the history of Native Americans in the region, as well as their interaction with white settlers. The Salmon Arts Council organizes many cultural activities, from small concerts to Shakespeare in the Park, a summer tradition.
